If you haven't heard Affliction has Canceled their recent PPV due to considered #2 Heavyweight in the World, Josh Barnett, Tested Positive for an anabolic steroid which got his licensed revoked by the CSAC ( California State Athletic Commission). Barnett was supposed to face Fedor Emelianenko on Aug. 1 at the Affliction :Triology PPV in Anaheim, CA. For many who dont know this was suppose to be a "make or break" PPV for Affliction much like last October's Elite XC Show where Kimbo Slice got knocked out in the first round by last minute replacement Seth Petruzelli, in which led to the demise of Elite XC closing up shop.
On a side note which was a joke my co-worker and I thought of one day was we would call up the organization and inquire about making a bid to acquire the Elite XC assets those including Fighter contracts such as Jake Shields, Kimbo SLice, Nate Diaz, Gina Carano, and others. We ran with it for so long that we tried convincing members in our gym who were Basically Loaded in partnering with my co-worker and I in buying Elite XC. We were close to doing it but it never happened. If you want to know Elite XC sold their assests to San Jose Based MMA promotion, Strikefore, for $3 million dollars. I wonder what would happen if those members were on board and I made that call, Awww Yeah...One can dream.
So, sorry to digress, but onto why I think Fedor will be in the UFC. With Affliction Canceling their PPV and the BabyFace Assasain Josh Barnett Faliing a drug test. Fedor has no choice but to sign with the UFC. I mean who else is he going to fight. Bob Sapp... Jose Canseco... some dude dressed up as Kid Muscle. He is probably the Best Heavy weight Fighter in the world that the casual fan does not know about and he's now becoming a side show fighting Jobbers. Isn't the whole point of being a fighter is to fight the best? I mean one of Fedor's nicknames is "the Russian Experiment". Is this Guy Omega Red? Fedor is like the superstars in the WWE back in the day where you would watch WWF Superstars on Saturday mornings where the Ultimate Warrior or Hulk Hogan will wrestle Brooklyn Brawler,Barry Harrowitz, or any jobbers you can think of. He's not proving himself and it's all because of his greedy management.
Fedor's Management are a bunch of pricks, But since Affliction will no longer promote any fight cards and now will Sponsor the UFC, it has forced Fedor's management to listen and try to negoiate w/ Dana White, who they hate ALOT, and strike a deal with the UFC. But Dana won't be the one to close the deal on this. It will be UFC CEO Lorenzo Ferritita who will get Fedor signed and probably Fight in the December or in 2010.
Why Lorenzo Ferritita you ask? This man has saved Dana's ass over the past year. He brought back Jon Fitch over a dispute over likeliness and property rights that will be exclusive to the UFC Video game. He brought Mirko "Cro Cop" back after rumors has surfaced that after his fight in UFC 99 that Cro Cop will turn his back on the UFC, in which he made a verbal agreement to Dana White Over the phone that wants to be back in the UFC, and instead fight for the Dream promotion. And now Lorenzo will help Dana White bring Fedor Emelianenko to the UFC and give what fight fans want in the UFC, the Best in the world and to see Fedor Reign supreme and live up to his nick name " The Last Emperor" or in Dana White's case have him face Brock Lesnar and hope that Lesnar beats Fedor and then Dana can talk all the shit he wants saying that Fedor being over hyped as the best in the world.
So, lets Give Josh Barnett a hand for giving what fight fans want. Fedor to the UFC and I'm sure there's room for Barnett in the UFC too. If not, there's always the WWE where he could use his Catch Wrestling skills to job to Batista. Don't get me wrong I'm a fan of Barnett (who is one of my friends on Myspace) but in this stage of the game for Barnett to fail a Drug test twice here in the states says something. He failed a drug test back in 2001 or 2002 when he beat Couture for the UFC heavyweight title then later got stripped from the belt. I mean this was more of Josh Barnett rise to being a legit top Heavyweight to US fans if he fought Fedor and put on a good fight.
I'll post up some more MMA news as it comes along and feel free to chime in with any thoughts about MMA or Fights in General. I've been a fan for years and I know a couple of you guys follow it too. It would be an honor to not only be the resident Kings Blogger on this site but to also be the Resident MMA blogger as well. Till then Enjoy the fights, the warriors, mustache rides, Wedding entrances, Baseball's trade deadline, and Sprite Commericals.
Have a good week!
where's the part about the mustache rides?
ReplyDeleteAwww dude. You mean you're only gonna blog about the Kings (Tyreke looked legit during summer league) and MMA (did you peep my previous MMA posts?)??
ReplyDeleteIn regards to this particular post, I think that Barnett testing positive may be a huge blow to Affliction. Like many fans I was looking forward to a quality match-up such as that from Affliction.
Rumors/reports state that Affliction is scrambling to find a marketable replacement for Barnett. One rumor is former WWE and current TNA wrestler turner MMA fighter, Bobby Lashley.
Lashley recently beat Bob Sapp in convincing fashion. He also just re-debuted on TNA Impact/Cross the Line.
Beats me if that (Fedor v Lashley) would be a good fight. Marketable? Sure.
Fedor to UFC is the best case scenario for fight fans. Until that happens, maybe Kongo can fight Brock to kill some time.
Am I the only one to get the Omega Red reference?
