I say you do that trade for Freddy Sanchez and Laroche at the end of this month before the trade deadline. That's great that Sanchez gets the no-no but with the all-star break and 2nd half of the season just around the corner the Giants are in a position to shop sanchez again and get some more bats in the line-up to help them get in the playoffs. Plus the Giants are loaded with Talened pitchers in the farm system with bumgardner and alderson ready to be called up in a year or two.
I read in the SF Chronicle that the Giants are also interested in Zach Duke, who ironically got the last-minute nod for the All-Star game to replace Matt Cain.
What could the deal look like?
San Francisco sends Jonathan Sanchez, Emmanuel Burriss, John Bowker/Travis Ishikawa and a prospect or two in exchange for...
Zach Duke, Freddy Sanchez and Adam Laroche?
What an effen steal! I don't know if Pittsburgh wants to get burned by Brian Sabean again after the Jason Schmidt trade.
I wouldn't necessarily call it a steal as Freddy Sanchez is over 30, Adam LaRoche is often injured, and Zach Duke is an older Sanchez - a lefty with potential that just can't put it together.
I think the guys we would be acquiring they have had already peaked.
Hmmm...the rumored deal with the Pirates is worth considering. Though I also wondered why they would ever consider trading with us again. Bottom line is, a real franchise changing player may not arrive via this trade. Jason Schmidt is not walking through that door.
Due to the no hitter, Sanchez may not have a higher trade value than right now. We have more pitching prospects waiting for next season. Roll the dice. See what happens.
Earl: With a glut of middle infield prospects, the Giants can afford to trade for a Freddy Sanchez, who even at 31, would provide stability at second base.
When any one of those prospects are ready, F. Sanchez will be on the way out -- by 2010-2011.
Meanwhile, Zach Duke, unlike F. Sanchez, still hasn't reached his peak. He's eligible for arbitration in 2010, so he'd be relatively cheap, too, despite already proving himself.
What the Giants need to do for the second half is solidify their weak links, like the 4th & 5th starter, second base and perhaps even first base.
Dealing with the Pirates accomplishes this. If they are truly "going for it," then Juan Uribe, Travis Ishikawa and Ryan Sadowski/Jonathan Sanchez's days as starters are numbered.
Otherwise, the Giants can stand pat and just "hope" their first half success continues, whereas Duke, F. Sanchez and possibly Adam LaRoche are known commodities and will increase their chances for the playoff run.
It's just a matter of how you look at it.
After typing this, I'm actually hoping the Giants stand pat, though, because I'm afraid any large addition would ruin their current chemistry.
"Due to the no hitter, Sanchez may not have a higher trade value than right now. " ----- Thank you - my thoughts exactly. I think that's why we can get a better trade than the current proposed with the Pirates.
If we can somehow work Holliday for Sanchez strait up would you do it?
Last big impact midseason trade I can think of busted like the trace-busta-busta-busta. The one for Sidney "I'm drunk and I ain't got nomore" Ponson.
It's going to be kinda tough now to trade Sanchez after the no-hitter!!! What to do, what to do???
ReplyDeleteEspecially with Randy's health with the ?
