Why would these teams do it?
> The Warriors clear out idiot and potential problem child Monta Ellis, package along Corey Maggette and include Brandan Wright to balance out the deal.
> The Jazz need to shed payroll so they can match the Blazers offer sheet for Paul Milsap. Getting back the Thomas brothers and their expiring contracts helps them accomplish this.
> The Bulls could use the high-scoring Ellis to replace the departed Ben Gordon, and with a potentially crowded backcourt, exchange Kirk Hinrich for an instant offense threat in Maggette (to replace Gordon's 6th man duties). Picking up Brandan Wright softens the blow of losing Thomas.
Chicago could also send a 1st-round pick to Utah to balance out the talent. Thoughts?
I wouldn't do it...
ReplyDeleteWe're trading a ton of youth for a guy that wants to opt out after this year!
Both Monta and Hinrich are the same size except one is on the downside of their career. PG's around 30 years old only go downhill.
Haha, Phil!
ReplyDeleteI was working on a similar post like this!!
Here's my take. I have it a bit different (give or take a filler contract like a Tim Thomas or something).
Bulls receive: Monta, Boozer
Jazz receive: Wright, Marco
Warriors receive: Hinrich, Tyrus
The Bulls don't care about keeping Boozer past this coming season. They want to have cap room for Bosh (so they wouldn't take Corey). Monta would basically take the departed Ben Gordan spot next to Rose.
The Jazz only want cap room to re-sign Millsap (they would want Corey but at a cheaper price).
Wright would come off the bench to spell Millsap. Marco could be a useful shooter in there offense (though I realize that he would double in talent Kyle Korver).
So, the Warriors would get a true 4 in Tyrus who can maybe play some 5. Hinrich can start (at the beginning of the season), Curry can come off the bench (for now).
The NEW ALANT...um, I mean...the NEW Warriors starting line up:
PG: Hinrich/Curry
SG: Jackson
SF: Randolph
PF: Tyrus Thomas (or T.T. for short)
C: Biedrins
Bench: Morrow, Buke, Davidson, Turiaf, Corey, CJ.
Not bad...
Where you going to say, "Alantra!?" LOL.
ReplyDeleteI just want to get rid of Monta Ellis and capitalize on the Jazz's perceived desparation to make room for Paul Milsap.
Something has to happen in Utah before the end of the week, and we all know the Suns-W's deal is pretty much on life support.
That trade would give the W's a traditional lineup and that for the W's would be un-traditional.
ReplyDeletePlus, I rather have Monta/BWright then Hinrich/TT
Monta can be a future all star while Hinrich has maxed out his potential. Bright and TT imo is still a push.
Phil said.. ."I just want to get rid of Monta Ellis"
ReplyDelete--- you don't like "Serra" Monta Ellis? He's better at bein a undersized 2 than Hinrich is being a pg.
I guess I'm also bitter at Monta Ellis' shenanigans from last season. He cost me, along with many other season ticket-holders, a ton of money.
ReplyDeleteI really believe he single-handedly ruined the W's 2009 playoff chances, or even any semblance of a competitive team -- one that people would PAY to watch.
Hence, I had to eat a ton of tickets NO one would even pay half price for.
Sure, the economy had something to do with it, but fans still pay and support this team, even in their downtrodden years (every year, basically).
I'm sure Chris Cohan and his mini-me, aka Robert Rowell, feel the same way toward Ellis.
I really don't think he makes it through his contract in Golden State. Unless, of course, they're sold to another owner.
I would be more bitter if we traded him and then he goes on to become an all-star. But hey, that's typical Warrior action.
ReplyDeleteLet's just add him to the list of W's whose career blossomed after leaving the Whore-rriors.
I'm afraid of any Worrier trade this off-season, its either going to backfire the W's or just backfire the W's(yeah either way its going to suck)!!!! Maybe like the baseball team across they bay, the W's best move is doing nothing. Any trades seems disastrous just because of who is running this organization!!!
