The San Francisco Chronicle (or sfgate.com, whichever you read) has been doing a week-long series of the possibility of the Niners moving to Santa Clara with the proposed stadium up for vote in March.
The stories include how devastating it would be for the 49ers to move to the South Bay after a long tradition in the City by the Bay.
Personally I don't mind them moving to Santa Clara as long as they do not move out of the bay area. With all the conflicts between the Dr. Dork and the Gav (SF mayor Gavin Newsom) in terms of the layout of the stadium on the old Naval shipyard, I guess it got to the point in which the doctor thought it was best to move the location next to the practice facility.
Again, I am not against the Niners moving down there, but ideally it would be nice to have them build the stadium in the shipyard, which would be great for the City's longstanding tradition with the 49ers!!
Well at least Jed has the City as a backup plan to fall back on.

We should have our next happy hour in the shipping yards where the proposed stadium will be. There's a reason why I haven't been to that part of the city. That's also a big part in why the niners aren't going to be building a stadium there. You can only displace so many people through gentrification.
ReplyDeleteI could learn to get over the Niners leaving SF. Due to their rich history, I would prefer them to stay (and I don't mean like Dennis "Stay In College" Erickson or Steve "Complete from A to Zinc" Stenstrom type "rich history" either!).
ReplyDeleteThe Santa Clara 49ers of San Francisco has a ring to it. Not like a Super Bowl ring but, whatever.
That is the challenge that faces the city with trying to redevelop the shipyards, changing the perception from being a not so friendly part of the city to an area where people can go and hangout and check out views of the bay!!!!
ReplyDeleteIf the Santa Clara proposal is rejected, the city has to make the Yorks believe(like Warriors fans) that those shipyards can be revitalized with a new stadium and develeopments around it!!!!
