This is just nuts, but I'm totally in favor of it. Yes, this purchase will make Disney an ultimate media company for years to come. It's perfect timing because Marvel has recently been skyrocketing with independently produced projects like the "Iron Man" movie and their DVD animations. With Disney on board, these Marvel projects can get much more global distribution and merchandise support.
Of course with Disney getting the rights to over 5,000 Marvel characters, you can imagine this... Walt Disney's "Ghost Rider and the Seven Dwarves." Now Disneyland will start adding Marvel flavor to their rides like Dr. Doom's Splash Mountain. Or video games like Marvel vs. Disney vs. Capcom. The ever popular Comic Con in San Diego will now be invaded by geeks in Little Mermaid costumes with Wolverine claws.
Or how about this other diabolical Disney Marvel collab costume?

The possibilities are endless...
This is shocking really. It's like Disney buying Pixar or ESPN...hmmm..wait a minute.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I am more concerned about what this purchase means to the actual source material. Buying Marvel is one thing, how does that effect the comics themselves? Do they now become more family friendly?
I can see the films doing well but many of the comics do have more of an edge to them.
Will Iceman live in the Matterhorn? Will Silver Surfer surf through Space Mountain? Is Miley Cyrus a mutant?
Disney would be the ultimate media company if they purchased Vivid Ent.
