The upcoming Affliction PPV has been canceled due to sponsors backing out (no Fedor v Barnett = no money).
Apparently, none of the fighters will be compensated for this. Most may attempt to join UFC, Strikeforce or go to Japan.
In the meantime, Affliction ran back to UFC and again is a sponsor.
Barnett is considering a move to pro wrestling in Japan while he is suspended.
Also, Fedor and UFC contract talks have stalled.
It's a shame really, I think that competition creates the best products (see: WCW v WWE). Instead, UFC remains the only game in town (see: WWE).
Looks like it's back to only seeing Affliction as t-shirts on UFC fighters and buff a$$holes at Vegas clubs.
Yes Bri, It's nice to see some competition in the MMA world between promotions. But when you over pay your fighters with guaranted money then your not going to get the type of show everyone expects. Plus the over production and bad playing in between fights made it look Pro wrestling esque. They kind of reminds me of WCW where they seriously overpaid Hogan, Hart, Nash, Hall, & Goldberg and Nitro became stale because those guys would only show up to hype the PPV and wrestle 4 to 5 time on nitro.
ReplyDeletePlus the Affliction Guys Didn't know how to run a MMA promotion in the first place. That's Why I think Lorenzo Fertitta said it best when he first bought the UFC. If he had brought in some Harvard MBA grad to run this business the UFC would have never existed and fold and It's Dana White who had a passion to turn this sport into something special the reason why we talk about MMA now.
Just to add on your Josh Barnett news He will also be fighting in the Sengoku promotion in Japan in December. His Opponent is TBA.
Affliction had some good cards but to me always felt like the WCW of this which in most people mind might think that Strikforce is the ECW of MMA.
BTW the number of affliction shirts in my closet is 5. Yes, Bri, I own 5 of those t-shirts. Did I overpay for those shirts Hell NO! Now, I just need the muscle to sport them.
I haven't been keeping up with mma lately as I've in the past. How would these guys do against brock lesnar and rampage?
ReplyDeleteIf we're talking Fedor (and that's probably who we are)....Brock or Rampage would be fun matches to watch.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with ya a bit Rail. Mixing a wrestling style showmanship with MMA can work as proven by Japan's Pride organization. But, as also illustrated by Pride, longevity is the challenge. Pride was WCW then in this case.
So, if you put on some Affliction shirts and go to Vegas I'll call you an a$$hole. It's all good Rail, you're good in my book. You can always take off the shirt whenever you like....
awwwwww f#ck yeah...
